What's at stake today?

Today is Election Day - a day that is filled with hope, suspense, and bullshit. Unfortunately I have become cynical about elections since (in the last 20 years) I have seen a litany of corruption, stolen elections, and general 'Tom Foolery' that has left me extremely numb to the rhetoric.

However, this morning, while I was out and about I noticed just how many folks were talking about the elections; how they felt about them, how they felt about themselves in the election process. The thing that jumped out to me more than anything, was the underlying sense that no matter whom they would vote for, the outcome and its decided winners would probably not do anything to help whatever current situation they were in.

I guess I was moved in a way, moved by the thought that people are still passionate about their country, just like I am, even if that means admitting that we're all eating the same heap of bullshit every two to four years.
